This clever ingredient will give your morning smoothie a serious upgrade

I’ll be the first to confess that smoothies are my morning life-saver.

As in; the fact that you can just throw a bunch of fruit and veg into the Nutribullet, press the button, and boom; breakfast – that you can actually consume on the go between creche and school drop-off, is, to me, all sorts of amazing.

Someone recently gave me this tip to make my morning drink pack an extra protein punch – and now I have become totally addicted.

Enter ricotta cheese.

“WHAAAT,” I hear you say, “cheese in a smoothie?!”

But seriously, it makes my smoothie sooo creamy – I have now swapped yogurt for this in pretty much all my go-to recipes.

All you need is a spoonful or two, add that to the rest of your blend, and you are good to go.

The reason it works is because the ricotta thickens the mixture and makes the smoothie extra creamy (rather than soupy). The best bit? It packs a hefty dose of protein to keep you full longer.Win-win.

Also, before you ask, the flavour of the ricotta, not that it has much in the first place, is completely undetectable when blended in with other ingredients.
