14-year-old boy dies following isolated incident at school

A 14-year-old boy has died in an isolated incident at a school in Scotland.

Emergency services arrived at Saint Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn at lunchtime on Monday, June 5.

The boy was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Police Scotland issued a statement following the harrowing loss confirming that police have launched an investigation into the young boy’s death.

Headteacher at the school, Andrew Sharkey, said the community is devastated.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends and we extend our deepest condolences and offers of support.

“We have set up ongoing emotional support and signposting for students and staff affected by this tragic news.

He also asked the public to respect the boy’s family during this heartbreaking time: “We would like to respect the family’s privacy at this incredibly painful time.”

“We are assisting the relevant authorities with their investigation to establish the facts and we will not be making any further comment at this time,” Mr. Sharkey added.

The pupil has not yet been named at this time.
