“You live and learn”
Bláthnaid Treacy says she returned to work as a broadcaster just seven weeks after giving birth because she ‘had to’.
The 2FM broadcaster welcomed her first child, a daughter named Nancy, with her husband Charlie Moon in June, 2023.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the first-time mum opened up about returning to work while her baby was so young, admitting it wasn’t something she wanted to do, but rather something she felt she ‘had to’ do.
“I absolutely would have loved to not have gone back so quickly but I’m freelance. So yeah, c’est la vie! I went back early because I had to,” the 2FM star confessed
Upon reflection, the mum-of-one feels it was too early to return to work and, knowing what she knows now, she may have done things differently.
“It was very, very soon and now I’m, like, that was crazy. But you live and learn; I’d never been a parent before,” Bláthnaid told the outlet.
“I asked my colleagues in 2FM about how soon they went back, and Jen Zamparelli told me she took a short maternity leave on her first pregnancy, but for her second, she took the full nine months.
“I totally get that now.”
The broadcaster says her nine-month-old daughter Nancy has developed a ‘funny’ personality and the best part of motherhood is getting to know her personality as she grows.
As long as it feels right for a mum to go back to work, then it’s the right time.
Everyone is different and, as Bláthnaid said, parenthood is about living and learning.
