He said: “Trying to fit in a few pints after training. Fitting in more than we should have — then getting up to train the next day.
“Usually on Wednesday or Thursday having a huge passionate row in the evening because we were tired and frustrated then get back into it.
“It was an experience which was hard to explain to people on the outside.”
Rory and Denys broke records during their time on the show, becoming the first same-sex couple to dance together over a season.
Disappointed to have been kicked off the RTÉ series this week, Rory said: “I’m good, obviously disappointed. We wanted to finish and we got so close to the end, it’s disappointing not to. But on the other hand, that is the game and I’m proud of
what we did and we had a lot of fun doing it.
"But I’m by far the oldest contestant and made it this far.
"We did achieve that and I’m super proud. I got everything out of it that I wanted to get out of it except for getting to the final but that aside, we did everything else."
