What is the criteria?

To qualify for the allowance, children must be aged between 4-17 on 30 September in the year you apply. For those returning to full-time second-level education, they must be aged between 18-22 and attending a recognised school or college in the autumn of the year of application.

You and your children must also be a resident in Ireland.

You must receive a qualifying social protection payment, for example carer’s benefit or illness benefit.

How much do you receive for the benefit?

For children aged 4-11, families receive €160. For children aged 12-22, families receive €285.

Total household income includes weekly income plus weekly social welfare payments.

If you have one child, your weekly income limit must be €666. For two children, the limit is €720. For three, it’s €774, and for four the income limit is €828.
