Woman praised after she refused to give her train seat to a mum and her children

Fair play to her.

A woman has been praised for refusing to give up her train seat for a mum and her family. The woman explained that she recently had shoulder surgery so she was not able to stand on the crowded train. However, that didn't matter to one mother. When she boarded the train, the mum noticed that there were two spare seats beside the woman. She sat her children down in the available seats, but instead of standing beside them, the mum decided to ask the woman to move. Writing on Mumsnet, the passenger said she simply couldn't stand on the train because of her injury. "I’ve recently had shoulder surgery but I am now out of a sling so I guess I don’t look injured. We get to the next station and it’s absolutely heaving and a mother with 3 kids gets on. "Everyone files into seats and someone sits opposite me. She then approaches and asks if the other 2 seats are reserved. I said no and she could have them and sat the kids down.

"She then looks and me and say says “I’ve got 3 children who need a seat please can they have yours” I said no I’ve recently had shoulder surgery and still recovering so standing on a packed train would be too painful. The mum ignored her and persisted in asking the woman for her seat because she "has three kids". "At this point, I said “I’m not particularly bothered by the amount of kids you have but I will be staying in this seat as I need it too. The woman then said, "'If you have any issues please go speak to the train conductor." "The look she gave me could kill!" she added. The woman was worried she did the wrong thing, but fellow Mumsnet users praised her for standing her ground. One said, "Oh I feel for you. I'm the same. Disabled but don't look it and I got nasty comments for not moving when I was sitting in my reserved seat. Apparently, it wouldn't have made any difference to me." Another added, "I don't understand the mindset of people with children these days. Back in my day, kids stood and let the adults have the seats."
