‘Am I wrong for telling my husband I don’t want dinner on the table after work?’

Imagine walking in the door after work and having dinner sitting there

For most people, this sounds like a dream but one woman isn’t a fan of the arrangement her husband came up with.

Taking Reddit to vent her frustration with her other half, the mystery woman did admit that it might sound “crazy” that it upsets her.

“Listen, I know this may sound crazy and I should be so entirely grateful that he even cooks,” she began, “But he’s gone so far as to make my plate and have it on the table when I walk in the door.

“I work 10-hour days, bring my lunch and pack snacks so I have healthy options AND save money. I have a 45-minute commute and work in a professional setting: I wear heels, a blazer most days and dress nicely.”

The problem according to this woman is that her husband doesn’t even give her a minute to settle down when she gets home, he expects her to go straight to eating.

“I’d like to come home, use the bathroom (because of the long drive) and change/decompress before we sit down as a family. He finds that it’s rude to not sit at the table immediately and eat-blaming that the kids are hungry,” she continued.

“I’ve told him that I’d like to wait a little after getting home and then we could sit and eat as a family, that part is important to us both.

“Also, if he has dinner on the table at x time and say traffic, stopping for gas or anything delays me, he gets mad and makes it seem like I inconvenienced the entire family.”

So the Redditor decided to tell her husband that she doesn’t like being greeted with the food straight away and asked him to wait for 30 minutes before dishing up.

This seemed to upset him as he told her he wouldn’t cook anymore.

Now, the poster is wondering if she’s in the wrong. Luckily for her, it seemed that most people were on her side.

“Needing time to go to the bathroom, change, and re-orient after coming home is not unreasonable. From someone with a long commute, if someone shoved a plate in my face the second I walked in the door, I’d be annoyed,” penned one person.

A second wrote: “You’re not wrong especially if he blames you if you get stuck in traffic. Why is he so unwilling to compromise or even hear you out?”

“Your request is beyond reasonable, the kids can snack if they’re on the brink of starvation lol. his reaction is way out of proportion,” added another.
