Survey reveals average time mums get to put their feet up each night

HerFamily

Some days the only rest and relaxation time we get is when we are actually sleeping which is why we find the results of this recent survey a bit surprising.

According to a UK study, commissioned by Toby Carvery, the average mum doesn’t put her feet up until 8.07pm each night.

Considering that the majority of those asked start their day at 6.42am means that it IS a very long day, but we can’t remember the last time we were actually on the sofa for EastEnders.

It was also found that, on average, mums spend two hours tackling jobs in the evening – mainly clearing up after dinner – in the evening. (That’s on top of a full day’s work.)

Other chores which were mentioned include making dinner (it’s THE worst) , helping with homework, reading with the kids and getting school uniforms ready.

By bedtime, which for most was 10.51pm, 55% said that they felt “worn out and completely exhausted.”

Almost half also admitted that it was difficult getting the right work/home balance (tell us about it!). Perhaps that’s linked to the fact that 16% said their partner was “completely useless.”

Another third said that their other half “sometimes” helped out. Just 17% have a significant other who is always is happy to share the load.

As for the relaxation method of choice, over three quarters watch television. Others check their social media accounts and shop online while almost a fifth enjoy a nice glass of wine. (We’d definitely be in that last group… and the first… actually, we do all of them.)
