Halle Bailey has opened up about why she opted to keep her ‘sacred’ pregnancy private.

The Little Mermaid star and her partner, rapper DDG, welcomed their first child together last month, a son named Halo.

Ahead of his birth, the actress intentionally did not announce or share that she was expecting a baby on social media.

In a Q&A on her Snapchat that was reposted to YouTube by Thevoice4dappl REACTS, the 23-year-old thanked her fans for their support towards her decision to not share the news online and went into some detail about the decision.

“… Really, really appreciates people like you who are so kind and understanding, especially of me wanting to wait to share something this sacred and beautiful.

“I just wanted to make sure I had a beautiful, private healthy time in my journey,” Halle continued, adding that she found the press and paparazzi a ‘little bit’ stressful during her pregnancy.

“Honestly I stayed off of all social media. I really tried to just keep myself sane and I know that there was a lot of people who would always comment and be like, ‘We know girl, we know.’ And I’m like, ‘OK, that’s great that you know, but I’m just going to chill.'”

The actress later opened up about working, such as attending red-carpet events and photo shoots, during pregnancy.

“I think for me, I just realised I think it was helpful for me to be able to still be working and have something to promote, like the beautiful film I was a part of,” she said in reference to her movie, The Color Purple, where she played Nettie Harris.

“Things like that, it just helps my brain and to feel sane. Because there’s a lot of emotional vulnerability that you experience going through all of that.”

Halle shared an underwater photoshoot of her bump earlier this week, captioning the post, “missing my belly already but i obviously had to do underwater pics,” a nod to her character, Ariel, from The Little Mermaid.

Earlier this month, the actress shared the news that she and DGG were parents with a snap of their son’s hand.

“even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son.. welcome to the world my halo,” the caption read.

“the world is desperate to know you.”
