Hope Lee becomes Britain’s youngest organ donor

It’s impossible to imagine the pain of losing a child. It’s also impossible to imagine the difference that Emma and Drew Lee’s decision made to the lives of others.

They learned during the pregnancy that their daughter Hope had Anencephaly, a condition that prevents the baby’s head from growing fully. Because of this, they also knew that she wouldn’t survive long after she was born.

But rather than terminate the pregnancy, they registered their child as an organ donor. It was the story of Teddy Houlston (who had the same condition) that inspired them to take this brave course of action.

Emma told the Daily Mirror: “When we found out Hope wouldn’t survive, knowing Teddy’s story made me confident doctors could do the same thing.

“Today she is still living on inside someone else and it helps with the grief, it’s taken some of the pain away.”

Hope only lived for 74 minutes but her father Drew has described her as a “hero” considering that she managed to help so many people, and no doubt save lives, during this time.

We couldn’t agree with him more.
