Mum called out after changing her baby on restaurant counter- was she wrong?

Was this mum in the wrong?

Changing your baby’s nappy in public can be quite a stressful ordeal, especially if the baby changing facilities aren’t up to scratch.

There’s been many a time when we’ve had no choice but to change our little one in our car or on a park bench because there just aren’t any other options.

As mums, all we can try is our best, but one mum has come under fire for changing her little one on the counter of a restaurant.

And we can understand why this woman was pretty upset by the mum’s actions.

A Reddit user said she was eating at a casual neighbourhood restaurant when one mum started changing her baby’s nappy beside her.

She was eating her food when her mum approached the counter and placed her little one down beside her.

She explained that there were five tables and a counter with three stools in the restaurant. There was also a bathroom available, but there was no changing table in it.

“She put the bag on the counter right next to me, then spread out some kind of mat. It hit me what she was planning to do, so I said very politely-‘if you need to change the baby, there’s a restroom right behind you’.”

The mum explained she didn’t want to get her baby’s mat dirty by placing it on the floor.

“My response was ‘Please do not change your baby’s diaper on the counter where I am eating my lunch.’ Again, still being polite.”

The mum was less than impressed by the woman’s remarks and said it was unfair to leave her baby in a wet nappy all day.

The woman even suggested changing the baby on the bigger table, but the mum refused to do so.

“She got really worked up then, saying anyone could see inside the front of the restaurant from the street.

She then said, “How could I do that to a baby?”

The woman had no choice but to report the mum to staff and ask them to deal with her. She ended up storming out of the restaurant, but was she in the wrong?

Many users agreed that she went a step too far.

One said, “The table and counter are for eating. Not for changing a dirty baby diaper.:

Another added, “It’s not sanitary. It would be a health code violation.”
