STUDY: Marriage is good for your health… if you’re a man

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Ever suspect you’re getting the short end of the stick in your marriage? Well now researchers may have proven it for sure.

The findings of a new study reveal that eternal matrimony is more beneficial to men than it is to women.

Husbands suffer fewer negative health effects than their bachelor mates and the benefits are maintained even if they eventually divorce, provided they find another relationship later in life.

Meanwhile it seems that trip up the aisle has little or no impact on the health of a woman; the study, conducted by a team at the Institute of Education at University College London, showed that the average wife has the same risk of developing a metabolic disorder (diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure) as a middle-aged women who have never been married.
