This is How Many Times A Week Irish People Call Their Mam

Katie Mythen-Lynch

When it comes to Irish families, it seems Mammy really does know best, with half of adults still seeking mum’s opinion at least four to five times a week.

But don’t think she wouldn’t be in touch if you didn’t pick up the phone; almost a quarter of adults who no longer live at home are contacted by our mothers at least four days in every seven.

According to research conducted on behalf of belVita Breakfast as part of the launch of their Irish Mammies campaign today, 50 per cent of Irish sons and daughters still go to their parents’ home every week for Sunday lunch and 27 per cent admit their mother has the alarm code and keys for their homes in case of emergency (or a drop-by unannounced).

The phrase “You’d forget your head if it wasn’t screwed on” was voted the best Irish Mammyism, followed by “Have you got your big coat on?”

Meanwhile, 70 per cent of adults agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but 44 per cent said they never eat breakfast or often skip it. Just don’t tell your Ma.
