Mum Of 8 Is Walking 1000 Miles Completely Topless For A Very Good Reason

Sharyn Hayden

Cancer is still one of the great scourges of our world today.

While I recently wrote about my mum’s journey with breast cancer and how we handled it as a family, I was simultaneously grimly aware of a 5-year-old girl in our town who has just been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Cancer doesn’t discriminate, as Paulette Leapheart will tell you.

She is an incredible woman from the States who has had a double mastectomy because of her own cancer diagnosis and is making an incredible topless journey to highlight her surgery scars.

“Anyone who saw my breastless chest – whatever they were going through – all of a sudden, it didn’t seem so bad”

Paulette says she struggled so greatly with her outrageous medical bills that she and her family are now homeless.

To campaign for better healthcare, she and her 8-year-old daughter are making the 1000 mile journey on foot to the White House.

According to Paulette, the cost of being sick in the States was running to between $2,500 and $5,000 per month.

As she says, so poignantly in the video;

“We can’t afford to live”

Her beautiful daughter who joins her, motivates her every step of the way and rightly calls her mum a ‘hero’.

Paulette wants anyone who is effected by cancer and shares her anger towards the cost of healthcare in the United States, to meet her on June 27th at Congress and let all of their voices be heard.

Isn’t she absolutely amazing?
