Mum sparks debate after eating food before paying for it in supermarket

Kat O'Connor

A mum has sparked a heated debate online after admitting she eats food in the supermarket before paying for it.

There is nothing worse than going grocery shopping while you’re starving. Not only do you want to buy everything on the shelves, but you also want to open everything in your trolley, from the freshly baked rolls to the 6-pack of Snax you picked up ‘for the kids’.

We’ve all sneakily scoffed the odd grape or gone back for seconds at the free samples stand, but one mum has revealed she tucks into her groceries before paying for them.

In a now-viral TikTok, mum Cecily Bauchmann opens sushi and eats it in the store.

It is a harmless habit as long as you pay for the goods, but many people were shocked by the mum’s actions.

So much so, that she was targeted by trolls on TikTok.

In the video, Cecily is filming her supermarket visit when she tucks into a packet of spicy salmon roll sushi.

She says: “We have to go grocery shopping, I have no food. Kids are in school, we need snacks, we need breakfast, we need lunch, we need dinners…”

Before eating the sushi, the mum admits that she is “starving”.

When she arrives at the checkout, she tells the cashier she opened the packet before paying.

“I’m sorry, I was so hungry,” she says, to which the cashier replies, “I can just scan it, you’re good.”

The cashier had no issue with it, but many viewers did. The mum was forced to respond to negative comments on the video and stressed that there is nothing wrong with what she did.

She said: “Opening food is a normal thing at the grocery store, K?”

Do you agree?
