Which golden girl were you? A wild bon vivant Blanche? Caustic Sophia? Naive and lovable Rose or sarcastic Dorothy?
Golden Girls has got to be one of the most unlikely sitcom successes of all time. The 80s series depicted four women over 50, living together and experiencing the joys and angst of their golden years. A forerunner to Girls and Sex and the City and arguably better than both, the Golden Girls were way ahead of their time in the girl power stakes, they were independent older women working, pursuing men and generally not giving a crap. We miss them.
Random fact: The actress who played Estelle Getty was in fact one year younger than her on-screen daughter, Bea Arthur. Nearly an hour in hair and makeup was required to transform her into Sophia and it didn’t help matters much when after wrapping series 1, Getty had a facelift.
Now a Lego/Golden Girls crossover is on the cards and we’re excited.
The project has been proposed by Lego Ideas user Lostsleep and if commissioned will feature the four golden girls and even Dorothy’s ex-husband, Stan in Lego form along with faithful replicas of the Golden Girls set; the kitchen, living room and foyer.
The Golden Girls lego set has received its target of 10,000 supporters and an outpouring of support in the comments section on Lego Ideas. Watch this space.
