UCD has a free course for home makers looking to become entrepreneurs

Melissa Carton

If you’re currently a homemaker looking to turn your dream business into reality, UCD can help make that possible.

This Postgraduate Certificate in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Enterprise awarded by University College Dublin is a free course to help those looking to develop careers in new a direction.

Starting this July, the Springboard course is part-time to help those with young children work it around their busy lives.

I recently graduated from another Springboard course offered free to homemakers. I had wanted to go back to college when my son started school. Unfortunately, I fell into the awkward bracket of not being eligible for back to education or grants, but I also couldn’t afford the thousands in fees it would have cost me.

At that time there was no initiative to support people like myself who were unemployed and looking to retrain but weren’t eligible for social supports.

Last year through this changed and homemakers, who in the past were out of the running due to spousal income, could now avail of Springboard courses free of charge.

This new course based at UCD offers participants the chance to gain knowledge in what it takes to start a new business venture or gain creative marketing strategy skills that are highly sought after by employers.

Running for three half days a week for 12 weeks from July 2 to September 19, it is free to homemakers, carers, and jobseekers.

I would highly recommend these courses from personal experience and if you would like any more information you can find it at UCD Innovation Academy’s website.
