Woman warns about car seat add-on she says lead to her nephew’s death

Melissa Carton

Absolutely heartbreaking.

An aunt recently shared a devastating post to Facebook, pleading with people to get rid of this car seat add-on she says led to the death of her nephew.

Annie Yankova shared a photo of a car seat accessory, used to hold a child’s head in place, that she says caused her young nephew to suffocate.

Posting to Facebook, Yankova’s post read;

“TW warning – child loss

Now that the shock and denial has passed and the sadness and everything else has hit myself and the family, I have felt the urge to make this post in every mummy group I’m in! I have been asked to post this by my cousin and best friend to spread awareness

3 weeks ago today, I lost my beautiful nephew who was just 8 months old. They got in to a car accident where the car flipped. They had literally popped round the corner to a shop which is like a 2 minute drive.

The car seat did it’s job however this car seat add-on that’s pictured below is what suffocated and killed him as it slid down and out of place. This is just a warning to please THROW THIS SH1T OUT! (DO NOT SELL IT) I got one for my daughter when she was just 3 weeks old, my cousin loved it and so when my nephew was born I got him his one too. I’d be lying if I said I don’t feel responsible. I’ve got an 11month old daughter myself and we’ve used this with her and to even think what might’ve happened makes me feel sick.

Most of my family live abroad which is where I am now and ill be going back to london in a few weeks. I don’t know how I’m going to do it. I feel horrible. Anyway, if you use this or anything similar, please please get rid.

It’s not worth it. Anything that doesn’t come with the car seat shouldn’t be used! Things such as bibbs, hats, headbands and coats also shouldn’t be worn whilst in a car seat in the car.
Please share to make others aware!”

Many other parents commented on Yankova’s post saying that they too owned the device and never realised it could pose such a hazard to their child.
