Harry Kane is getting a lot of grief over the photo of his wife after she gave birth.

The England footballer shared a photo of fiancée Kate yesterday after she had given birth to their second child, Vivienne Jane.

While Kane received a lot of messages of congrats on the photo, some people were unhappy with the caption he had included with it.

Most notably, his reference to pain relief.

On Twitter and Instagram, he wrote:

“Our beautiful addition to the family! Vivienne Jane Kane.  So proud of @kategoodersxx for having the most amazing water birth with no pain relief at all. #mygirls#hypnobirthing.”

Radio host Julia Hartley-Brewer took to Twitter following the post to critique Kane’s decision to be “proud” of his wife for having no pain relief.

She wrote:

“I’m delighted for @HKane & his family but why on earth should anyone be “proud” of not having pain relief while giving birth

“Utterly absurd! There’s a reason why women get pain relief during labour: because it bloody hurts.”

She continued on:

“Remember, ladies, if you have an epidural during your labour, you’re a wimp and should be ashamed of yourselves.

“And the same goes for all you men having open heart surgery. Just breathe….”

As we are all well aware, having or not having pain relief during labour should entirely be up to the mother, unless of course it becomes too late for an epidural and you simply need to go it alone.

However, it’s fairly likely that Kane wasn’t shaming mothers who gave birth using pain relief, but rather saying that he was proud of his fiancée for not opting for it.

And for just, you know, giving birth in general. That’s definitely something to be proud of.
