‘You just have to do what’s right for you’ – Holly Willoughby stands up for working mums

Melissa Carton

Well done Holly.

Being a working mum is difficult enough without being criticized for it.

I’ve had several people pass remarks like ‘well why did you have kids if you’re just going to go back to work?’.

Maybe because of the rise in cost of living requiring both parents to work. Maybe because it’s just because I’ve worked hard to get my job and I’d like to keep it.

Whatever the reason working mums really don’t need to be made feel bad for their decision, something that TV Presenter Holly Willoughby recently spoke up about.

Speaking to Closer magazine, the This Morning host said that when it comes to being a mum, women just can’t win;

“Working mums and stay-at-home mums get a tough time. You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. You just have to do what’s right for you and not listen to what the mummy brigade say.”

Willoughby who has three children, Harry, 10, Belle, 8, and Chester, 5, went on to say that she relies heavily on her childminder to get her through and that she has so much respect for other working mums.

She went on to say that she doesn’t feel like she’s missing out when it comes to raising her children and thinks she has a good work/life balance;

“My job as a mother isn’t just to provide for my children, it’s to be there for them, too – someone they can speak to, hang out with, and lean on.
When it comes to the kids, I don’t ever want to feel like I’m missing out on stuff.”

The TV presenter said that she hasn’t completely ruled out having more children so we might be hearing another announcement from her some time in the future.

“I don’t know. Sometimes I think, “Why not?” and sometimes I think, “No way!”.
