Study Finds That Breastfeeding Premature Babies Could Prevent Developmental Complications

HerFamily

A new study is claiming that breastfeeding could help premature babies avoid developmental complications.

While not all babies who are born early experience such complications, health problems can arise that affect their breathing, heart, brain and/or immune system.

According to The Mirror, researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine are suggesting that breastmilk could potentially promote brain development and protect against neurological disorders.

The experiment involved 77 premature babies and it was found that those whose daily fluid intake was at least half breastmilk in the first month had similar brains to those born on time.

The study will be presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies 2016 Meeting in Baltimore.
