Needs must: Here’s where new parents have sex most

It's not the bedroom!

Anna O'Rourke

There are a number of certainties about becoming a parent.

Your body will change completely; getting eight hours of sleep will feel like a thing of the past and your sex life as you know it is completely different.

Night feeds, conflicting schedules and sheer exhaustion make it that bit harder to get intimate with your partner after you welcome a new baby.

That said, there’s no better release and plenty of new mums and dads clearly do make the time, if the results of a new survey are anything to go by.

The bedroom isn’t always the handiest place to have sex after having a baby though and so parents get creative in their quest for a quiet place to get it on.

In a survey of almost 1,000 new parents, almost half (47 per cent) said that they used the shower to have sex while their child was awake.

After that, the next most popular spot was just the bathroom itself, with 38 per cent admitting they’d has sex there.

Not all parents get frisky though – 36 per cent admitted that they never did when their child was awake.

“Sex after parenthood typically does not come to a screeching halt unless there is another underlying issue,” Leesa, the mattress brand that conducted the survey, told The Sun.

“However, most parents report that intimacy does change after they become parents, likely due to logistics and the changing roles they take on as they navigate parenthood with their partner.

“While your sex life may be a little different now that you’ve expanded your family, and you may be more likely to want to catch up on sleep instead of have sex when you turn in each night.”
