Mum’s request for advice on piercing baby’s ears doesn’t go down well

Probably not what she was expecting.

pierced baby

Oh.

A mum who asked for advice about piercing her baby daughter’s ears hasn’t exactly gotten the response she wanted.

The unnamed mum took to parenting forum Netmums to ask whether anyone had any tips on aftercare for a baby who is no longer being breastfed and who also has her ears pierced.

She wrote:

“I understand some parents may have mixed views on this subject.

“I’m planning to get my daughter’s ear pierced tomorrow… She’s fully breastfed… Just want to know if any mums have got their daughters ear pierced whilst breastfeeding.. How did you manage to breastfeed/the aftercare? Did it take long to heal?”

Those who responded to her request were not too keen on the idea of piercing her baby’s ears.

“And you’re planning to inflict pain on your child why? Leave her alone until she is old enough to choose for herself,” wrote one person.

“You should be old enough to make the decision for yourself about getting ears pierced,” argued another.

They went on:

“What happens in the future if your lo doesn’t want them pierced? I know if you stop wearing earrings then the holes close but not totally. There is still a mark there.

“But it’s your baby at the end of the day.”

Although it is not known exactly how old this mum’s child is, seeing as she posted her query into the ‘-12 months’ forum, users have assumed that her baby is not yet one-year-old.

“Poor wee girly,” said one user.

Many people also began wondering what breastfeeding had to do with the whole debacle.

We guess we might never know…
