Still Recovering From The Weekend Sugar Binge? Here’s How To Undo The Damage

Sive O'Brien

Got the post Halloween sugar come down feeling. Combined with the mood swings of your kids’ sugar comedown feeling? We feel it too, mamas.

Here are some easy ways to reverse any sugar or booze damage you might have done over the weekend, thanks to the clever clogs over at Doctoroz

1. Breakfast

Zero carbs, because your body will be busy trying to burn off these new carbs before it even begins to get to the ones from the weekend’s over-indulgence. Go for protein – eggs, avocado or lean meat instead.

2. Raw veggies

You’re most likely craving something that’s bad for you, so it’s tough to get stuck into raw veggies, so make it more interesting, dunk them in hummus or a spicy dip to liven them up. Your sugar levels spiked when you tucked into that second bar of chocolate in front of The Good Wife this weekend, so you need high fibre veggies to level out the spike and slow down the sugar absorption. Raw carrots and peppers are perfect.

3. Coconut water

Keep hydrated with water and coconut water, if possible until your urine is clear again. Your body needs water and potassium to flush out all the extra sodium in your system.

4. Exercise

It’s not rocket science, a bit of exercise will make you feel better, and although it’s the very last thing you’re going to feel like doing this morning,  it’ll get your body moving to flush out all those toxins. Just a brisk twenty-minute run or workout will do it.

5. Eat extra fibre all day long

This will get your digestion back on track in no time. Think fruits like apples, pears, raspberries, bananas and oranges. Or veggies like peas, broccoli, potato (with skin), and Brussels sprouts. Grains and cereal like brown rice, rye bread, oats, lentils, and almonds. Your day’s meal plan can look a little like this: porridge for breakfast, rye bread with eggs or meat and a raw veggie salad for lunch, with a dinner of brown rice or spicy lentils. Don’t forget fresh fruit to nibble on between meals.
