Study Finds That People Who Worry Are More Intelligent

HerFamily

The Sunscreen Song said that “worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.” But a new study is claiming that it could actually come in handy in a test situation.

Researchers at Lakehead University in Ontario found that people who worry tend to do better in verbal intelligence tests.

In other words, constantly thinking about decisions and conversations is working wonders for your brain and your ability for critical thinking.

So it turns out that all that tossing and turning over that work presentation or the bitten-down nails over the argument you had the other day isn’t the worst.

Of course, it is important for both your mind and body to keep your worrying under control. To help you, here are some tips courtesy of the HerFamily team:

  • Get more sleep
  • Plan your worrying time
  • Be honest about how you feel
  • Distractions help
  • Find a peaceful, happy place
  • Write down your concerns

As a new mum, you will also find yourself worrying more than usual (about things such as feeding, sleeping and winding) but that is perfectly normal.

The findings of the study were published in the Science Direct journal.
