So tragic.
A young mum passed away just hours after she contracted the flu.
Alani Murrieta, who was 20-years-old and had two children, started to feel unwell last week.
Her sister visited, at which time her children started to feel unwell also, so they all went to the hospital.
Alani, from Arizona in the US, was diagnosed with pneumonia and given tablets to take at home. But unfortunately, her condition worsened and she went back to the hospital and was put on a ventilator.
However, she quickly began to deteriorate and died just eight hours later.
“They diagnosed them with the flu, sent her home with flu meds,” her sister told Fox10.
“They were trying to resuscitate her, and they tried for several minutes and they told my sister there was nothing else they could do, that she was gone.”
How sudden and sad.
According to the HSE, between 200-500 people die from flu complications in Ireland each year.
