River Island has decided to remove ALL plus size clothing from its stores

The company did it silently.

It has been confirmed that River Island plus size clothing has been removed from all of its stores. From now on, the plus size range will only be sold online. The move comes after the company said that it sees the majority of 18-28 pieces being bought online as it's "in line with the market." After noticing the change in stores, Cosmopolitan reached out to River Island and it came back with this statement:

After 18 months in both stores and online we found the vast majority of sales (average 85-90%) were online and we found that this was in line with market – that more and more shoppers are migrating to online shopping to have the options to try on at home

Making RI PLUS online only has given us the freedom to stock more lines and increase our rate of newness to give the customer more of what she wants faster than ever before.

RI Plus was launched in 2016, with the company championing the curvier frame, as many in those sizes were unable to find on-trend, stylish pieces on the high street. However, the move to remove it is having a negative effect as many say the range was never highlighted in stores anyway, and that could possibly be why they didn't see the sales go through. Going back to solely shopping online now seems to be the only option.
