Gardaí have become involved after a teenage girl gave birth to her second child in a year at a Dublin maternity hospital.
The girl, who is said to be just 14 years old, is now a mother of two. Gardaí are said to be protecting her as an investigation is launched into the possibility she was abused. Police are also ensuring that she accepts help from social services.
According to a report in the Irish Sun, Tulsa, the Child and Family agency, have been granted a care order for both the mother and her children.
Under Section 3 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2006 it is a criminal offence to engage or attempt to engage in a sexual act with a child under 17 years.
