Finally Emoji acknowledge that Gingers are people too

At last emoji catch up with equality. With the introduction of the Ginger Emoji keyboard, all other recent technological advances have been eclipsed and rightly so.

In February, the Emoji keyboard in a show of commitment to diversity was expanded to include a range of skin tones and same-sex couples. The ginger hair colour, however, was still omitted.

“Basically everyone else was represented from the hair colour spectrum, but gingers were inexplicably left out,” said Evan Wray, Swyft Media co-founder.

Now Swyft Media have introduced its own suite of 16 different ginger emoji to represent redheads of the world and is available on Android and iOS right now.

Ginger-Emoji-Range

This is an issue close to my heart as I have always had a bit of a Ging Thing. The Man is the smug owner of a proud mane of ginger locks that he refers to as his Ging-Fro. It is a sight to behold.

Such is the impact of this firey sweep of waves, on occasion boy racers in passing cars have actually felt compelled to roll down the window and shout things like “Your hair!” and “Langer!” at him. One night in Tramore the passing car actually circled the main street to have another look.

Redheads were plagued by a certain stigma during the 80s and 90s but thanks to the brave campaigning of stars like Domhnall Gleeson, Chris Evans and Eddie Redmayne being ginger has developed a kind of niche cachet.

And now the new ginger emoji will further the fight for equality this oppressed minority.
