Privilege Insurance conducted an in-car assessment of 50 men and women and examined the driving of a further 200 motorists at a busy intersection over one month.

Just one per cent of women took a chance and cut into traffic dangerously. 14 per cent of men did the same.

All drivers were marked on the same 14 aspects, with women scoring an average of 23.6 points out of a possible 30 and men clocking just 19.8 points.

Only four per cent of women drivers were guilty of tailgating, compared to 27 per cent of men.

The survey findings fly in the face of common presumptions about female driving skills in general. Amazingly, just 28 per cent of women surveyed believed they were better drivers than men.
