Mother Delivers Her Own Baby (And She Didn’t Even Know She Was Pregnant)

A 23-year-old mother just delivered her third child by herself after finishing a long work shift.

Lianne Brennan had no idea that she had become pregnant shortly after the birth of her second child, Jasmine Jae, who’s now 14-months-old.

Brennan, who had just finished a bartending shift, was sitting on her couch at approximately 3 am watching TV when she coughed, and her waters broke.

She had been experiencing cramps and back pain which at the time she put down to period pain and an old back injury and was stunned when she went into labour.

“I had had a sore back all that day but my periods are so regular I didn’t think anything of it.”

“But the minute my waters broke, I knew I was going into labour.”

“I went white with fear. There was blood everywhere,” she told the Sun.

The shocked mum who also works as a hairdresser struggled to find her phone to call for help and eventually realised that she would have to give birth alone.

She climbed into bed and after a relatively short 30-minute labour delivered a daughter, Echo-River. She had some styling scissors to hand which she used to cut the cord and then tied it off with a hair tie. Her quick thinking and composure was incredible; she put her calm down to mother’s instinct.

“I had no idea what I was doing. It was just a mother’s instinct,” she told the Sun.

She went on to describe the chaotic aftermath of the delivery:

“After I got out of the shower a neighbour knocked on the door to borrow a phone charger.”

“She said: ‘sorry, have you just got out of the bath?’”

“I said ‘No, I’ve just given birth’.”

“She called an ambulance, and luckily one was just passing and took Echo-River and me to Wythenshawe Hospital. I had nothing with me. I turned up with my handbag on one arm and Echo-River in the other.”

During the pregnancy, Lianne, a smoker, continued to go out socialising and drinking most weekends, but thankfully Echo-River is in good health and weighed 7lbs 2oz at birth.

“I never believed it when I read stories like this. I always thought: ‘how could you not know?’” she told The Sun.

“I still can’t quite believe it’s happened to me, but I couldn’t be happier.”

“Echo-River is the most perfect surprise.”
