Pregnant news reporter responds to viewer criticising her outfit

NOT ON.

Cathy Donohue

It will never cease to amaze us that people think they can tell pregnant women what to wear as if expecting a baby should change your personal sense of style.

News anchor Laura Warren, who works for NBC in Augusta, has taken to social media to discuss her experience of body shaming after a viewer complained about her outfit.

In a post on her personal blog, Bump, Baby and Breaking News, Laura explained how this person said she should wear “decent maternity clothes” because her clothes were “too tight”.

The exact quote, as you’ll see on Laura’s post, was:

“Please go to Target and buy some decent maternity clothes so you don’t walk around looking like you got a watermelon strapped under your too tight outfits. Target’s got a great line of maternity clothes in case you’ve never heard of such a thing. You’re getting to where you’re being disgusting on the TV”.

Initially, the comment really bothered the mama-to-be and she started questioning herself and her sartorial choices, but then she got to thinking that one negative comment shouldn’t detract from all the lovely things said about her pregnancy.

She then decided that it was time to focus on the positive and spread the love, all while wearing a dress that complements her new curves.

“I think instead of letting this lady get me down, I’m just going to turn her negative energy into positive energy. I’m going to say as many nice things as I can to as many people as I can, and I’m going to do it in a dress that fits these beautiful new curves with my ‘watermelon’ stomach showing”.

You can read the post in full here and it’s well worth a few minutes of your time. We love the fact that Laura is hoping to empower others through sharing her story.
