Santa’s elves at An Post reveal when children should send their Christmas letters

Kat O'Connor

The countdown to Christmas is officially underway.

We’re already getting into the Christmas spirit. We’ve been watching Christmas movies, started our shopping, and have already opened the tub of Roses we hid in the kitchen.

Next on the agenda is the famous Santa letter.

It’s one of the oldest Christmas traditions, but when should kids in Ireland send their letters to Santa?

We’ve enlisted the help of An Post who have all the information when it comes to Christmas letters.

Santa’s elves in An Post shared, “Kids can send them as early as they like, and the earlier the better so as to give Santa and the elves plenty of time to get organised. It’s such a busy time in Santa’s workshop and the North Pole in general.”

Children should address letters to Santa Claus, North Pole. “Don’t forget to include their name and full postal address in their very best writing, to seal the envelope and pop on a stamp (a national stamp will do just fine).”

Include your sender details in very neat writing in the top left corner on the front of the envelope.

The elves in Santa’s Post Office ask that all letters be posted by Friday, December 3rd. Santa needs to have time to read all the letters and to reply to as many as possible. He posts all his replies a few days before Christmas, An Post revealed.

An Post has asked all kids and adults to get ready for Christmas even earlier this year. An Post will help everyone through the new EU Customs arrangements and ongoing Covid-related issues with limited international air freight, but it really is best to get planning and get posting early.

There are special rates for Christmas stamps booklets and bundles to help everyone with their Christmas post.
