10 of your favourite reads last year

Sive O'Brien

What a year it has been! HerFamily.ie, our baby is almost one, and our growth has been unstoppable. We’ve enjoyed every minute, bringing you all the news, in-the-know chat and laugh-out-loud articles to help parents with the tricky job of parenthood to make it that teensy bit easier.

Here are the top 10 pieces that got you sharing, commenting and liking on our site and social media pages in 2015.

1. How could you forget our chatty little man Luca? The youngest speaking baby – possibly EVER – at just seven-weeks-old. What an adorable little cutie. Well, 60,000 of you thought so.

2. This uptown abs fitness video for targeting tummies and core strength has been watched continuously since it went live on the site in February last year. It’s been shared nearly eight thousand times on social media.

3. In March, only three months after we launched we were contacted by the family of the adorable quads born in Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital. The family broke the story to HerFamily.ie, telling us “it was a no-brainer” that we would get to break this story to the parents of Ireland and share the beautiful news. It’s since been read 80,000 times and shared on social media 30,200 times. We’re dying for a ‘where are they know’ catch-up with the four little rascals.

4. Readers went bananas for this genius trick to help them fall asleep. It’s a really simple breathing method, but oh-my-God does it work. The HerFamily.ie team swear by it when we’ve been woken by our little people in the wee hours.

5. 36,000 readers think they’ve been shaving their legs wrong all this time. Well, have you? Check it out here.

6. Baby names are always a hot topic, but when we brought you this list of the top baby names of 2015, our readers went batshit crazy to learn the names of-the-moment. Is yours on the list?

7. Naturally, this terrifying child predator test caused a frenzy on social media – it was shared over 9,000 times – watch a couple of really worrying scenarios where teenage girls unknowingly put themselves at stupid risk – it’s a must-watch for anyone with kids, even if they aren’t yet teenagers,  just to remind you of just how easily a child can be influenced.

8. Readers went crazy for this genius hair hack – proof that time-poor mums need and any help they can get clawing back some time in their day – even if it’s just a few extra minutes.

9. We would never have imagined how much readers wanted to know how to increase their chances of having twins as much as this, but nearly 50,000 of you were really quite intrigued. Double trouble, but twice the fun!

10. Behaviour is a hot topic of course, for all parents – so many techniques and advice, so much grey area when it comes to teaching them how to behave and knowing how to react when they don’t. But this piece on how to you can teach your child NOT to interrupt a grown-up in just two minutes really struck a chord. It’s a universal, pesky problem – now solved.

Happy reading, everyone.
