Dad and Buried: The Brooklyn blog we can NOT stop reading

Dad's the word for Mike Julianelle

Katie Mythen-Lynch

We can’t get enough of US blogger Mike Julianelle of Dad and Buried. The 30-something Brooklynite says all the terrible things other parents think but are too afraid to say about their delightful offspring, yet magically manages to come across as a very nice and capable parent and a Grade A guy.

His thoughtful (and usually hilarious) posts and tweets are a breath of fresh air whether you have kids or not but parents will find his observations particularly pleasing.

Here’s a taster on a few choice topics, click the link to read the full post. If you’re anything like us you’ll be checking in daily:

On bedtime:

“Everyone goes to bed, every single night, why is this such a f*cking struggle for children to understand? I can’t wait to sleep, yet my four-year-old resists with screaming and crying and tantrums until he’s completely exhausted, which, since he’s four, is basically never.”

On Halloween costumes:

“Your kid is not your art project. Your kid is not the New York Times Op-Ed page. Your kid is not Tina Fey. Don’t make him dress like an Ebola patient or someone from ISIS or Ray Rice. He didn’t choose that outfit; he doesn’t watch the news.”

On parent exhaustion:

“One of the earliest pieces of advice I got when my wife was pregnant was to catch up on sleep before my kid was born. It’s both incredibly apt advice and terribly stupid advice. Stupid because there’s no way to “catch-up” on sleep before you lose it; you can’t bank sleep. And apt because once you have a kid, as in DAY ONE, the amount of sleep you’ll get for the rest of your life – on both a daily basis and in an accumulative “total sleep hours” one – begins to diminish and never stops.”

On bathtime:

“He hates getting in, he hates getting out, he hates getting water in his eyes, he hates shutting his eyes to avoid the water. Is this a joke? Am I being tested? I can’t wait until the kid can take a shower.”
