Toddler convinces anxious mum to wear a bikini and she looks fab

Fair play to her.

Shelby Goodrich Eckard's daughter is starting swimming-lessons soon. In order to get the toddler all kitted out, the mum-of-one took her to Target to buy her a new bikini. However, upon picking out her daughter's swimming attire, the three-year-old then turned to Shelby and said: "Your turn." In an Instagram post, Shelby wrote that she initially told her daughter that "mommy can't wear a bikini to swim class, boo." It was then that the toddler looked up from the shopping trolley and said the one word that changed Shelby's mind - "why?"

"Why? Seriously though, why couldn't I? I could. I just felt uncomfortable. Observed. Exposed. A bit like I'd embarrass her. But all of those sounded selfish in the moment, so I said, 'you know what? You're right. Let's get mommy a bikini.'"

Shelby admitted that she had put off taking her daughter for swimming lessons for years because she was afraid of embarrassing her at the pool. However, after being quizzed as to why she just couldn't wear a bikini, the mum-of-one realised that there was no reason for it. Shelby said that she cast her fears aside not just for herself, but to show her daughter she should always see her own as body as "unique and wonderful" too.

"I want her to always stay the brave, bold blonde little girl who knows exactly what she wants and exactly how beautiful and strong she is. The same little girl I used to be, before life and society taught me I shouldn't be."

Shelby then shared another photo of herself and her daughter both in their (almost) matching bikinis - and it is nothing short of adorable. The mum finished her post by saying that she and her daughter rushed home to play in their new swimming outfits, like the "brave, bold beautiful blondes we are." Shelby's post has since been liked over 1,000 times, with Instagram users saying she looks unreal, fabulous, and most importantly, happy. Some people also wondered what Target the mum got her bikini top in, and to be honest, we don't blame them for asking - it's fab.
