Inspirational Women Who Rock at Motherhood

HerFamily

Mothers are amazing. They raise us. They teach us. They protect us. They make us who we are.

To mark the fact that it’s International Women’s Day, we’ve decided to give a shout-out to a number of women in the public eye that we just love to love.

Some have had a major impact on the world as we know it. Others are easy to relate to. All of them are mums and all of them are deserving of praise.

Ladies, we salute you!

Caitlin Moran

She doesn’t mince her words. She stands up for what she believes in. And she can make us cry with laughter. Just have a read at the letter that she penned to her teenage daughter in the event of her death and you’ll see exactly why we want to be her best friend.

Sheryl Sandberg

Sheryl Sandberg is one of the most powerful women in the world having worked for business giants including Google and Facebook (where she has been Chief Operating Officer since 2008). The fact that she is all for equality in the workplace and at home makes her even more inspirational.

Amy Huberman

Words cannot quite express the adoration we have for Amy. She’s a talented author and actress but she’s so down-to-earth it actually hurts. We kind of feel like we could go out for cocktails with her and swap parenting stories until the early hours of the morning.

Deirdre O’Kane

From Dundalk to the big screen, Deirdre O’Kane is an acting force to be reckoned with having played the lead role in 2014’s Noble, about children’s rights campaigner and writer Christina Noble. We seriously can’t wait to see what she does next! (Check out her lessons in living here).

Michelle Obama

She might be the First Lady of the United States but Michelle Obama is a respected lawyer and does a wealth of charity work as well. We also get the impression that she would give it all up for her two daughters – something which we can certainly relate to.

Helen Steele

As well as being a talented fashion designer and artist, Helen is mum to three children. We love her work – which is full of bright designs and brave prints – but we love her take on motherhood and appreciation for her family even more.

Mary Robinson

Where do we even start? Mary Robinson became the first female President of Ireland in 1990. After that, seven years later, she became the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. She made history and inspired thousands of women across the globe.

Maura Derrane

The television presenter, who welcomed her first child at the age of 43, will always have a special place in our hearts because of her honesty about motherhood. The fact that she manages to juggle her family life with a hectic presenting career and still smile deserves a round of applause.

Angelina Jolie

She might make money by starring in hit films but Angelina Jolie is known for supporting a number of great causes and charities. She has also come through and bravely spoken out about her serious health issues all the while taking care of her six kids. Fair play.
