We’ve all been there.
Coffee in hand, hair in bun, legs in tracksuit bottoms as we stall it down to Tesco on a Friday night.
Our other non-mum friends might be getting all glammed up for an impromptu night out, but not us. We need at least two weeks in advance to plan for such an occasion.
The most we look forward to is a night out at the shops, picking up food for the weekend and nappies for the newborn.
Nikki Pennington is a mum who knows the trials and tribulations of nights out to do the shopping all too well.
The other night she was shopping at a Target in her “mom couture” consisting of no makeup, leggings, and head of hair full of dry shampoo.
She was wandering through the crayon aisle (they have whole aisle’s dedicated to crayons in America?!) when she spotted a mum in the exact same situation as she was.
Nikki took to Facebook to dedicate a post to that woman.
She called it ‘Missed connections.’
“You were at Target last night about 7pm in the crayon aisle. I was wearing my mom couture complete with dry shampoo hair, no makeup, yesterday’s T-shirt and yoga pants.
You were also wearing yoga pants with flip flops and a messy bun. The venti Starbucks in your hand was a dead giveaway that even though you were wearing yoga pants you had in fact not come from the gym. I know because I was doing the exact same thing #yogapantsarelife.”
Nikki went on to say that that mum’s trolley contained chocolate, nappies, and wine, confirming her suspicions that they were meant to be friends forever.
“Our carts hit once as we rounded the corner from aimlessly pretending to be shopping for something in our favorite store when in reality we were both just having a moms night out. I mean we all know that’s where all moms go for a night out.
So, to the fellow mom in Target last night at 7pm, if you see this and recognize this story and my Starbucks drink please know I’ll be back at Target again next week because let’s be honest, I live there.
Maybe I’ll see you again, same time, same aisle and this time we can wander around aimlessly in Target together for our moms night out.”
Nikki also included a photo of her Starbucks for good measure.
Fair play, Nikki.
