Pope chides the childless – he’s at it again

Is Pope Francis becoming the Catholic church's biggest liability?

Sophie White

Last week it was condoning slapping as a form of discipline provided the child’s dignity is preserved. This week, Pope pans the “greedy generation” of people who choose to remain childless.

The words: people, glass houses and stones spring to mind. The pope stated that the decision to not have children was a “selfish act” which called to mind a similar speech delivered last year when he dissed childless couples as pursuing a “culture of well-being” and then proceeded to list many of the positives (and he would know) of not having children including having more money to spend on holidays and property. Is it just us or was he inadvertently undermining his own argument a bit there? With these comments, he unwittingly may have deterred many couples on the verge of taking the plunge into parenthood.

Not surprisingly #pope was on fire with many taking to twitter to point out the obvious irony of the pontiff pontificating on baby-making.

Love him or loath him we are warming to the weekly Pope Francis outbursts. Nightmare for the Vatican’s pr, amusing for us and perhaps even potential for a drinking game; PopeFrancisFail – drink every time he puts his foot in it.
