The stage show of David Walliams’ Billionaire Boy is coming to Dublin, and we hope Santa is listening

HerFamily

A 12-year old billionaire, an orangutan butler, and a company called ‘Bumfresh toilet paper’…

Not since Roald Dahl has there been a children’s author so imaginative, so irreverent and so delightfully wicked as David Walliams. Some of his best-selling books, such as Gansta Granny, have been turned into equally successful TV shows in recent years, before being adapted for the stage.

And in February, a new production of Billionaire Boy will be coming to Dublin’s Olympia Theatre.

First published in 2010, the story revolves around a boy called Joe Spud, whose father has become ludicrously wealthy thanks to his toilet roll company. Living the luxury life to the extreme, Joe has everything he could ever want – except for friends.

When he leaves his posh school to join the local comprehensive, Joe is thrown together with a classmate called Bob. Together they take on the school bullies, as well as a new girl who is not all that she seems…

Following a BBC adaption in 2016, the colourful story will now be brought to life on stage by the Birmingham Stage Company. The show will teach your little ones a touching lesson about the problems that come with wealth and the value of real friendship – and serve up a host of hilarious on-stage boldness for them to giggle at too.

David Walliams’ Billionaire Boy stage adaptation can be seen at The Olympia Theatre from Wednesday 5 to Sunday 9, February 2020. Tickets are priced from €18, find booking information here.

Something to remember when your little ones are writing their Santa letters, and a good tip for all the grandparents, aunties and uncles out there who may be looking for some Christmas gift inspiration too.

There will also be special rates offered for schools at the 11am shows on Thursday 6 and Friday 7, February, plus one teacher will go free with every 10 tickets. For more information, contact groups@olympia.ie
