When You Work From Home With Young Kids…

Aisling O'Leary

Imagine you are at work, an office job lets say. You’ve been glued to your seat, flying through all your work, getting on top of things. You’re starting to feel well chuffed with yourself. For the first time in months, your To-Do tray is practically empty.

All you have left to do now is file all your completed paperwork. You think to yourself ‘that paperwork isn’t going anywhere. I’ll have a quick coffee break, and then I’ll finish up before I go home’…

When you return from the coffee corner after a quick catch-up with Angela from Marketing, you discover that some jackass has flung all your work around your office! There are papers and files everywhere. And to top that off, the jackass in question has also knocked/spilled/purposely thrown a sticky drink all over your desk!

Now we all know, that would never actually happen. But it does, when you work from home, and you’ve young children!

Juggling parenting and work can be tricky. But don’t give up just yet! You just need more time to figure out your own flow of things. Utilise naptime. Save the housework for when they are awake. Toddlers and young kids love helping with hoovering and the laundry. They love to feel like they’re helping. Or let them sit next to you while you work, give them some paper and colouring pencils.
