US Scientists Develop “Second Skin” To Hide Wrinkles

HerFamily

Scientists in the US have created something which has been proven to hide wrinkles and improve the appearance of eye bags.

According to Nature Materials, experts at Harvard and MIT have created an invisible elastic film that “mimics the properties of youthful skin.”

It is first applied to the skin as a gel but the formula, consisting of silicone and oxygen, dries to form a breathable and protective film.

The researchers claim that the temporary “second skin” hydrates the skin and increases elasticity.

They conducted several tests which showed that the skin that had been coated with the polymer was more elastic and appeared smoother than the skin without.

The product is currently being explored as a commercial cosmetic product but it could one day make it to market. Before that, more studies are needed.

According to BBC News, Dr Tamara Griffiths of the British Association of Dermatologists said: “The results appear to be comparable to surgery, without the associated risks.

“Further research is needed, but this is a novel and very promising approach to a common problem. I will follow its development with interest.”
