Dad charged €214 by airline after child turns two before return flight

Children under the age of two travel for €20

Aer Lingus has issued an apology to a passenger who was charged €214 when his daughter celebrated her second birthday while on holiday.

Children under the age of two are allowed to sit on their parents’ lap on Aer Lingus flights for a fee of €20, but children over the age of two must book a seat, something Mark Quinn was unaware of when he boarded the flight from Dublin to Frankfurt after spending a fortnight in Ireland.

The airline apologised to Mr Quinn, but claimed the terms and conditions are clearly stated in the ‘infant booking’ section of their website.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, Mr Quinn said he was ‘disappointed’ the issue had not been flagged with him sooner, adding that he felt the website was ‘not very consumer-friendly’.
