Cher Lloyd has revealed to fans that she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and is asking other mums who experienced this for advice.
The X Factor star was told she has gestational diabetes amid her second pregnancy with husband, Craig Monk.
The famous mum who has one daughter, Delilah- Rae (4), shared how the news shocked her so much she “burst into tears” but that she is now being pro-active.
Cher shared her health news on Instagram, writing: "I got the call last week to tell me I had Gestational Diabetes. I burst into tears. I felt scared, confused and instantly blamed myself.
"I’ve spent most of my time researching gestational diabetes and trying to find recipes and ways to control it.
"I’m still getting used to the changes and how this might affect the rest of my pregnancy.
"I just wanted to reach out to any fellow gestational diabetes mamas out there sharing advise, stories and suggestions. Sending love."
According to the HSE, any woman can develop gestational diabetes at any stage of pregnancy.
The most likely time of developing it is the second half of the pregnancy.
You have a greater risk of gestational diabetes if any of the following apply:
- family history of diabetes in a first-degree relative (parent, sibling or child)
- your body mass index is above 30
- BMI calculator -safefood.net
- you are 40 years or above
- you have had an unexplained stillbirth
- you have excessive sugar in your urine (glycosuria)
- you're on long-term steroids
- you have previously given birth to a baby weighing 4.5kg or more
- you have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- you have polyhydramnios (extra fluid around the baby)
- a scan shows your baby is significantly larger than average
- your family origins are South Asian, Chinese, African-Caribbean or Middle Eastern
