Mum explains why four-year age gap between children is ‘the best’

Ellen Fitzpatrick

A mum of two has explained how the unplanned four-year age gap between her children was the best thing that could have happened.

Explaining that a four-year age difference is “the best”, the mum said she had originally been anxious about such a big gap between her kids.

She revealed that she sadly had three miscarriages after her first child, and was “was getting so anxious about the growing age gap between them.”

Taking to TikTok, mum Kaitlin Klimmer said: “Now that we’re on the other side of that, I think the four-year age gap is unreal and I would choose it every time.”

She went on to share that she had just put her 16-month-old down for a nap, and lays with her children as they sleep, adding: “So I was lying with her and I fell asleep also, I woke up 20 minutes later just not at all concerned about what my five-year-old was up to. Like, she’s five? She can hang out for half an hour by herself.”

When she went to see what her oldest was up to, and to explain why she had been gone for so long, she found her daughter “just making her birthday invitations for her birthday” that was weeks in advance.

Captioning the video “2 under 2 just ain’t for me”, many other mums in a similar situation couldn’t help but agree with her.

One mum said: “From a mum who’s struggling with secondary infertility and STRESSING about the age gap, this makes me feel sooo much better!”

Another wrote: “People worry about them not being best friends if they’re further apart but my sisters six and eleven years older than me are my BEST friends.”

And a third added arguably the best point, joking: “12 years is the best, they can babysit!”
