Piles and constipation often come hand in hand during pregnancy and Dr Fahimeh Sasan explains that an increase in progesterone levels can also slow down your digestive system during pregnancy making it often harder for you to pass bowel movements.
She notes that if you are having trouble in the bathroom or starting to feel any sort of "burning" or "itching" sensation below, to go see a doctor as soon as possible for your own peace of mind.
Often piles and constipation can cause a great deal of pain and a doctor will prescribe you with laxatives or stool-softeners to get your bowels moving again says Dr Fahimeh Sasan. Piles can also be treated with a cream, wipe or suppository prescribed by your doctor.
Overall - it is nothing to fear and something which will clear up once treated. Dr. Sasan adds that hemorrhoids typically will become smaller and go away over time.
