Fighting Words is running free online summer camps for kids and teens

Melissa Carton

The summer projects are officially back on!

My eldest child loves getting involved in different activities during the summer.

Last year he took part in a summer drama camp and also Cul Camps and he was looking forward to going back again this year.

Unfortunately because of the global pandemic all of these summer activities have been called off leaving a huge gap in our normal summer routine.

Thankfully though some summer camps, like the one being run by Fighting Words, have switch from in person to online meaning your child can still participate without leaving the house.

This year Fighting Words will be running their schedule of camps for kids and teens online.

Fighting Words is an organization that aims to help children and young people to discover and harness the power of their own imaginations and creative writing skills.

Camps this year will be offered to two age groups: 11-13 years and 14-17 years. In future years, we do expect to expand our age range to include younger writers again.

Fighting Words have said that they have had to restrict participation this year both in age range and participant numbers due to the extraordinary circumstances presented by the Covid-19 situation.

All Fighting Words camps will run from Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm and are completely free of charge but you will need to apply beforehand.

Workshops will include creating graphic novels, songwriting, playwriting and creative fiction writing.

Parents wishing to sign up their child for a place on the camps will need to fill out the online application form before 5pm on May 29.

Fighting Words will inform successful applicants by June 19.
