Contrary To Popular Belief, Study Finds That Pasta CAN Help Your Waistline

Pasta tends to make it onto the list of things to avoid when you’re trying to lose weight but it seems that this shouldn’t necessarily be the case.

A new study – conducted by researchers at the Neuromed Institute in Pozzilli, Italy, and published in the Nutrition and Diabetes journal– has found that there is no link between eating pasta and putting on weight.

Experts found that those who regularly consume pasta in moderation, usually as part of a healthy Mediterranean diet*, had “a healthy body mass index, lower waist circumference and better waist-hip ratio.”

The team, led by George Pounis, reached their conclusion by examining more than 23,000 people’s BMI and measurements within the context of their pasta consumption.

*It was said that the beneficial effect of pasta on the waistline was present regardless of how closely this diet was followed.
