But it turns out that there's a way to combine the two, making your coffee taste like pancakes - and the definite best of both worlds.
According to
Bon Appetite, Lem Butler is one of the most decorated competitive baristas in the history of the United States.
He's won the Southeast Regional Barista Championships five times in the eight years (choosing to coach instead of compete in 2017), as well as the United States Barista Championship in 2016.
He told the publication some of his top ways to brighten up a morning coffee - or, at least, add a bit of extra oomph with some homemade syrups.
Among the ideas? How to make your coffee taste like pancakes.
The dad reckons that maple syrup and molasses aren't used enough in coffee drinks - and he came up with a solution for that.
Here's what you have to do...
- Put some maple syrup in the bottom of a cup and fill it with steamed milk.
- Slide a cinnamon stick into your mug, and then pour the espresso into the hole at the top of the cinnamon stick.
- While the coffee will sink beneath the foam, your drink will taste like a pancake breakfast.
