Cadbury is changing the recipe of this iconic chocolate bar

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Everyone’s a Fruit and Nut case, as the song goes, but real fans of the iconic Dairy Milk chocolate bar will be shocked to hear the recipe is about to be changed for good.

Cadbury have announced plans to add (wait for it…) sultanas to the mix to ‘add more variation’.

Raisins have traditionally provided the chewy element in a Fruit & Nut, appearing happily alongside crunchy almonds since 1926, but come the end of this month, chocoholics can expect to find the sweet, golden-coloured dried grapes in there too.

Sultanas might be a controversial choice, but the company have denied their addition is a ploy to combat the rising price of cocoa by bulking out the bar and promise a product with the exact same chocolate content as before. Phew.

This will be reassuring indeed for the bar’s hardcore fans, who don’t just consume their Fruit & Nut with a mug of tea like the rest of us…

Explaining the decision, a spokesperson for Cadbury said: ‘It’s important we have a flexible supply of the dried fruit we use in our famous Fruit & Nut bars to both retain quality and ensure it’s still an affordable treat.

‘Many consumers noticed no change in taste when trying both bars, stating both sultanas and raisins were just as tasty as each other.’
